What is Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is produced when bees gather the nectar from the flowers of the Manuka bush, also known as Tea Tree bush or more specifically, Leptospermum scoparium. Manuka is native to New Zealand and Southeast Australia, including Tasmania. Manuka honey is distinctively flavoured, dark and rich in taste, and has strong anti microbial properties. Melita’s Tasmanian Manuka honey is produced from hives placed in wild, uncultivated areas in Tasmania with abundant growth of Manuka bushes, giving it potent antimicrobial properties.

What is MGO?

Manuka honey’s antibacterial properties are what set it apart from traditional honey. Methylglyoxal (MGO) is its active ingredient and thought to be responsible for these antibacterial effects. MGO comes from the conversion of another compound in Manuka honey known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a high concentration of which is found in the nectar of Manuka flowers. Really amazing honeys

We visited the store while visiting Tassie on a holiday.
We stopped thinking it’s a small cafe but it turned out to be a honey store.
We tired their honeys and were immediately hooked on. When I ran out of stock I did an online order. Their chili honey is my favourite. A nice twist to the boring toast. Love it over avo toast as well.

Very happy with this honey

Many thanks - my honey arrived very quickly and securely packed. I use manuka honey every day because in my experience it prevents my diverticulitis attacks. I was thrilled to find it with bee pollen included because our 10 month old pup constantly had watering eyes due to allergies. I wanted to try a natural remedy so I started giving him a very small amount of this honey daily, introducing it carefully in case he was allergic to the pollen. He was fine with it and his eyes have stopped watering. I will continue to use it for 12 months to assess it through every season, but it had been an issue since we got him and his eyes improved within days of starting the bee pollen honey.
