What is Manuka Honey?

Manuka honey is produced when bees gather the nectar from the flowers of the Manuka bush, also known as Tea Tree bush or more specifically, Leptospermum scoparium. Manuka is native to New Zealand and Southeast Australia, including Tasmania. Manuka honey is distinctively flavoured, dark and rich in taste, and has strong anti microbial properties. Melita’s Tasmanian Manuka honey is produced from hives placed in wild, uncultivated areas in Tasmania with abundant growth of Manuka bushes, giving it potent antimicrobial properties.

What is MGO?

Manuka honey’s antibacterial properties are what set it apart from traditional honey. Methylglyoxal (MGO) is its active ingredient and thought to be responsible for these antibacterial effects. MGO comes from the conversion of another compound in Manuka honey known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA), a high concentration of which is found in the nectar of Manuka flowers. Melita Manuka Honey comes in 3 ratings: 100+ MGO, 250+ MGO & 400+ MGO.

Love each and everyone of your honey's

So sad that you had to leave your beautiful Honey Farm. We are both so fortunate to have found you the day we were leaving Tasmania. What a beautiful experience. So many diverse honey's that you would not encounter anywhere I'm pretty sure. Wish you all the best for your future :)
